NEWS FROM THE 2015 TTOS NATIONAL CONVENTION IN ALBUQUERQUE

The pre-convention tour took 44 members to Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway on Monday and to Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on Tuesday. Some had been to one or the other, but mostly not both. For everyone, it was a great high country double-railroad adventure… despite the soot and cinders. The first day, it was a case of “Where’s Waldo?” Only for us, it was Randy Giroux chasing the train and showing up in various place taking photos. Soon it was Randy taking photos of us while we were taking photos of Randy.

Then we were treated to an excellent week co-hosted by the New Mexico Division; they showed us why Albuquerque is such a great place. Comments from attendees are coming in daily: really liked the tours, the balloons were huge and colorful, the home layouts gave me ideas for my layout or this is my first TTOS convention and it is a friendly group. The tour to the restoration of the 2926 lead to this observation: the ladies enjoyed sitting in the shade while the guys “slobbered” all over the engine. The layouts in the trading hall were fascinating; there were 2 O-gauge layouts by New Mexico Division members plus an O-gauge by Southern Pacific Division plus a 42 foot long HOn3 layout. Trading tables had railroadannia, modern, postwar, and prewar merchandise including 6 tables of premium postwar boxed sets. There was a free “Kids Raffle” on Friday and Saturday; an excited child left with a train set each day.

Everyone had a great time at the Thursday night Welcome Party getting reacquainted with old friends. Then the Saturday night banquet everyone thoroughly enjoyed the excellently prepared dinner. The live auction after dinner brought us lively bidding and a few good laughs.

* 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION — ABOARD THE QUEEN MARY *

AUGUST 1-6, 2016

At this year’s convention, we introduced two products to kick off the 50th Anniversary Celebration. One is a colorful, action-packed 50th Anniversary logo made by Miller Engineering. The full color logo is 3 ½ “in diameter, runs on 3 AAA batteries and has numerous (40+) configurations. The second is the 2016 TTOS Convention Mint Car featuring a full-color T.T.O.S. logo, a “gold” bullion load, and historical data. Look for the order forms for these unique items in the next issue of The Bulletin.

This special celebration calls for a royal setting – therefore attendees will enjoy harbor side first-class staterooms, a Welcome Party and a Banquet in elegant surroundings, a variety of restaurants to meet the requirements of any palette, and a huge trading hall filled with displays, selling tables, and operating layouts. All of this will be found on board the Queen Mary. So save the date {August 1-6, 2016}, plan ahead, and be there for this 50th Anniversary Celebration Extravaganza. Hint: a number of special events will be available to those who book their stateroom on the Queen Mary. Watch for all the details in a future edition of The Bulletin.
